If you’ve ever wondered what actually goes on at Forest District CrossFit—or maybe you’ve driven past our gym on South Main Street in Wake Forest, or seen a post from our gym’s socials and thought, “Maybe I should check that out someday”—this post is for you.
Let’s walk you through on what our fitness classes look like at Forest District CrossFit. We keep things structured but relaxed, challenging but doable—no matter where you’re starting from. Whether your goal is to add muscle & get stronger, feel better in your own skin, or just not be bored to death while working out, our strength and conditioning program has what you want and need.
We always start at the whiteboard
When you walk in, the entire group/class meet at the whiteboard. This is where your coach lays out the class plan: what the workout is, what the goals and expectations are for the day, and how you can meet those goals. You’ll hear things like how the weights should feel, how long movements or rounds should take, and most importantly—how to scale or modify anything to fit you. Whether it’s your first day or have been doing this for a decade, there’s always a path or plan that makes sense for what you are looking for in your workout.
General warm-up = let’s get ready
Next up, we get the body moving. Your coach leads a general warm-up to get the blood flowing and muscles ready. This is your chance to switch gears, forgetting the stress of your day, clear your head and get moving (unless you’re an early morning person then it’s time to set the tone for your day). Sometimes it’s intense, sometimes it’s playful. Sometimes it’s short, sometimes it’s long—it all depends on what’s needed for the workout. BUT, it’s always purposeful.
Specific warm-up = practice makes progress
Once you’re feeling loose, it’s time to get more dialed in. Your coach walks you through the movements in the workout—step-by-step—so everyone knows what’s coming. We practice, progress, fine tune, and find the right variations, weights, and modifications. This is where the strength and conditioning magic starts to happen. You’ll get feedback, guidance, and encouragement, all aimed at helping you move better and feel more confident.
Just the other day, we witnessed a member get their very first pull-up during this portion of class! And, the best part, they weren’t even going to try one until we walked through the movements for the day. Those real time wins and PR’s are so awesome to see in real time!
Time to workout
Then, it’s go time! We hit the workout together. It could be a fast-paced burner, a heavy strength day, or a mix of both—but you’re never alone. Your coach is there the whole time, cheering you on, helping with form, and making sure you’re getting the most out of your session. Our gym is all about community and shared effort. It’s hard, sure—but it’s also fun.
Cool down
After the last rep or when the time clock beeps signaling the end of the workout, we cool down and cool off together. Whether it’s stretching, walking, an ab finisher, or a little skill work, we cool off at a lowkey, laidback pace. It’s also a great time to chat, ask questions about the next day’s workout, or just enjoy that post-workout buzz.
And of course—we celebrate each other with a high five, clean up our space, feel good about what we just did, and head home feeling a little stronger, a little sweatier, and a lot more accomplished.
So if you’ve been thinking about joining a gym or trying something new with your fitness classes, we’d love to have you drop in and experience it for yourself. Our strength and conditioning program is more than just workouts—it’s about community, progress, and feeling great in your own skin.
